The Workshops
Screenwriting – “All About Me” ISA Workshop
Veteran writers from the Iowa Scriptwriting Alliance will conduct a 90 minute workshop to help you with your script writing. Bring the first 10 pages of your film, TV or stage play. Bring enough copies for each character in your script. Your script will be read out loud by writers giving you an opportunity to hear your work. You will receive feedback regarding structure, characters, dialogue, plot development and other important elements of script writing.
Set Etiquette – What Would Emily Post Do on Set?
Set Etiquette is invaluable knowledge that will help you to further your career, but more importantly, will keep you and others safe. Steve Faust, IMPA Grip 101 instructor and 26 year production business veteran, and Jim Brockhohn, IMPA Board Member and Actor, will share their knowledge with attendees on what cast and crew should know before walking on to set during the first half of the session. For the second half, Steve and Jim, will lead a roundtable discussion where attendees can share experiences and learn from each other. All attendees, from newbies to more seasoned professionals, should walk away with new knowledge.
Editing Basics – Spotlighting the Invisible Art of Filmmaking
Editing can make or break a project. Join writer/producer/director Scott Thompson of My Town Pictures, a production company doing original feature films and shorts in the Midwest, to learn some basic techniques to edit quickly but professionally and how to get the most out of raw footage on the screen.
Casting – Working Outside the Zone
From audition techniques to business etiquette, a comprehensive practical guide to acting on camera in the Midwest with Casting Director Ann Wilkinson. The owner of PMS Casting and an IMPA Board Member, Ann is the founder of the Iowa Casting Association and serves on the Council of the Chicago Branch of the Screen Actor's Guild. She has worked in theatre, film and television as an actress, casting director, baby wrangler and teacher from LA to New York and points between. Ann will talk with attendees about what she looks for when casting a project and offer tips to help you land that next gig.
Cocktail Reception and Awards Ceremony
Iowa became one of the nation’s hotspots for film production in 2009. But this is an ongoing story. For years, Iowa filmmakers in front of the camera and behind the scenes have created success. Come celebrate as our state’s stars shine during the 2010 IMPA Awards!
